Endoscopic sphincterotomy is frequently performed during ERCP and bleeding can represent a severe complication.
Despite the different haemostatic treatments commonly used (epinephrine injection, thermal and/or mechanical haemostasis), bleeding can still occur.
This case report showed the effectiveness of PuraStat haemostatic gel, in treating post-Endoscopic sphincterotomy refractory bleeding.
The self-assembling peptide gel was easily applied to the lesion through the endoscopic catheter reaching successful and persistent haemostasis without complications.
The authors highlighted the feasibility of PuraStat as therapy for intraprocedural ERCP bleeding, identifying the key product advantages as being easy preparation, ease of application, and the low learning curve for the physicians.
